All About Candy

What is the best wedding favor you’ve ever received? We recently posed that question to our readers and customers. While the answers were varied, the favors that garnered the most votes on the list of favorites were edible favors. Candy was by far the stand-out winner in preferred choice. With so many options to fulfill your guest’s desires, we decided to list some of our favorite candy and edible favor selections along with some purchasing tips and advice.

Deciding on your presentation for your candy favor might need to be your first order of business. If you have a particular container or packaging you want to use for your favor, you’ll need to determine what candy would best fit your container. If, on the other hand, you have a specific candy you were hoping to share with your guests, you’ll want to select a packaging that will best accommodate your selection.

It’s wise to consider the season when selecting your candy. Chocolate truffles on a hot August day could be a disastrous choice. Good choices for all weather considerations are Jordan Almonds, salt water taffy, and pillow mints. When buying your candy, choose a store that sells bulk candy or specializes in wedding favors. Trying to buy enough Jordan Almonds at your local supermarket will lead to the frustration of insufficient availability and possibly stale product.

An online vendor we like for bulk purchases is Blair Candy. They have a nice selection of wedding classics including Jordan Almonds, foiled chocolate hearts, colored chocolate drops and mint nonpareils. We’ve even found a cute gummy butterfly perfect for spring or summer events! Their bulk pricing will surely beat buying small boxes at local retailers. We’ve found Blair Candy’s products to be of excellent quality and very fresh.

A Regal Ribbons’ favorite favor is a box of John Kelly’s premium chocolate fudge. They offer several options of smaller packagings that are perfect for wedding favors. We’ve shown ours here trimmed with our personalized Wedding Bells Continuous Ribbon.

The cupcake revolution of the past few years has created a whole new area for creative favors. While the idea is fun, DIY execution of this project can be tricky. 100 boxed cupcakes delivered to your reception is best left to the pros. Contact your baker to plan ahead for this type of project.

Cookies and biscotti are easily managed treats, and simple to use packaging options are available for their presentation. We love the artful cookies made by etsy seller Lori’s Place. We added ribbon to one of her delicious monogram heart cookie designs. Easily packaged and transported, the cookie favor is a practical and well received choice.

We used pastel colored chocolate balls and silver foiled hearts to create a champagne glass centerpiece. Each couple seated at the table takes away a champagne glass favor filled with delicious chocolate that served as both a centerpiece and a favor.
